Remington 03-A3 questions?

Ok so I have what appears to be a Remington 03-A3 with a sporterized Monte Carlo type wood stock. The stock itself is fairly faded but in good shape. The barrel has surface rust, but the action looks fairly clean. Also the extractor is broken.

So my question. From what I’ve said is the gun worth anything substantial. I want to make it even more “sporterized” with a match grade trigger, free float stock, scope, and refinish the barrel. So is the gun worth anything collector wise (don’t want to destroy an expensive piece of history by sporterizing” and how much would it cost to get it re blued or other finishes?

  • For collector value, there are some “ifs”. If the barrel has not been chopped down and no holes have been drilled in the receiver for sights or scopes it can be restored. It would need to be re-parkerized. A replacement military stock with all the correct hardware would be required. It would not be cheap, and you might not be able to sell it for what it costs.

Parts are readily available on the web. You can research what it will cost to restore and what a restored model is worth.

If the receiver has been drilled for sights or a scope, there is no point in trying to restore it. Sporterize away.

  • Unless it is restorable to original military configuration It really does not have any collector value.

Unmodified 1903a3s in good condition are in the $7-10 range and formally sporterised ones are worth not much less. Sporterised rifles are worth what they are to you as a hunter. The last sporter 1903a3 I saw sold went for $175.

  • The value as a military piece is long gone. AS for finish? Consider Duracoat.
