Rubber hose under bike drips fluid?

i just bought this Honda shadow yesterday. its my 1st bike. theres a hose under the motor towards the back. after getting done riding yesterday I noticed a few spots its dripping liquid? it isn’t leaking bad while the bike is stopped but im worried it may be dripping more while running? the hose is probably 2-3 inches off the ground it looks out of place? last night it rained and today after it dried up I notice the spots are still on my driveway? I cant smell anything so I cant smell it?

  • relax would you? all bikes have this its usually a rubber hose that will go to the bottom of the carbs or fuel injection that if there is overflow it will go out there. It could also be to let excess oil out of the crank case if it gets hot and expands. What ever it is look on the owners manual or call the bike shop and ask them what the hoses are for exactly ok? I always point mine over to one side so what ever comes out does not go directly on the back tire by accident. Your bike is running fine so take it easy did you turn the gas off last night?

  • Next time you park put the petcock to Off AND remember to turn it back On.
Check your mileage, that bike should be capable of around 35MPG fairly easy, if less than that you may be leaking fuel as you ride (not likely but possible). If leaking fuel it’s time for the carbs to be cleaned/rebuilt.
Have a friend with a good ‘nose’ smell your crank-case oil, if it smells like gas you have a problem that should be addressed very, very soon.
