*Serious informative answers ONLY* Is the Chase Freedom card good?

Here’s the info on it but I don’t really understand and I would like to start building my credit which I have none, so I’m trying to see if this is any good before I jump into anything?

https://www.chase.com/online/Credit-Cards/Freedom….

Exactly how does it work and what is the 11.99% to 22.99%?

I just need more detailed information before I make my decision.

Thanks so much that are willing to help;)

  • Whether it’s good or not, I cannot say. What I can tell you is that with no credit history, you will not be approved.

If you want to start building credit, your best bet would be to go to the bank or credit union you use for your personal baknkig. They can start you with a secured card. You give them a few hundred bucks and they give you a visa or master card. You can add money to it so your limits are higher. This gets reported to the 3 bureaus.

After 1 to 2 (usually closer to 2) years, if the card has been used & paid on time & no overages, they will unsecure the card. You get your money back & normally end up with a card with at least double what the secured card was.

There are also cards known as builder or rebuilder cards. These are for people with bad or no credit.

They come with high interest rates & monthly fees.

Chase & others like them, AMEX, BoA, Etc, are prime lenders. They do not offer their products to folks with FICO scores under at least 7 (give or take a few in either direction). It’s going to be some time before you qualify for that. Also, ignore any preapprovals you get in the mail. They send them to pretty much everyone. It does NOT mean you are approved…not even close.

  • Given your limited knowledge of credit and how it works and even NOT know the percentage info shows you have no other credit cards. Therefore you will not qualify for a Chase Freedom Card in the near future. DO NOT go on an application binge where you try and see if you can get all these cards it will hurt your credit very badly.

Try for a Capitol One or Orchard card you will get a 3-5 limit and pay a very high interest rate of 20-30 percnet but who cares you will be paying the bill off every single month for at least 2 years to come.

And at this point it is not YOUR decision it is just a matter of getting a start card and building up to a major brand so to speak.

Oh and once you put your question out there anyone registered can answer regardless of you liking the info or not, that is how it works.

  • Any credit card will determine your interest rate and limit based on your creditworthiness. If you have no credit history, it is unlikely you will qualify for a low interst rate or a high limit. You may have problems qualifying for any card, especially if you are under 21.

The new law that went into effect last year requires that people under 21 provide proof of sufficient income to qualify or have a parent co-sign. Creditors will want to see at least one year of work history to go with that income proof.

You may have to start with a secured card — you pay a deposit which is held as collateral against the line of credit.

  • I am not sure if you can get a Chase card without having some established credit. You might be better off applying for a card designed to help you build credit, like US Bank card.
