i want to have a better signal on the second floor. the router is on the 1st floor. i don’t know where to place it best.

Every wall/ ceiling you go through you will loose signal strength. The signal goes outward from the antennas not upward. So if the antenna is vertical the signal will go horizontal. If the antennas are horizontal the signal will go vertical as in up to the second floor. If your able to up the transmit power turn it up more. If you only have one spot upstairs you could try adjusting the antennas. Or you could buy another wireless router and run them in bridge mode. I think that’s the right mode for it. Been a while.
