Single Mother of Four in Desperate Need, Birmingham, Alabama?

Does anyone know of an organization in the Greater Birmingham or Jefferson County Alabama area that assists those truly in an emergency?

There is a 29 year old mother of four, unemployed, that has absolutely nothing and now her husband has left her with the kids for another. Same story, different verse i know, but this story has touched my heart and while i can’t do much i have helped. She is in desperate need.

Her heating unit has quit ($2,0. for replacing), the transmission on her car has gone out (another $2,5.), she has now had to go on food stamps and is two months behind in her rent.

Between myself and a few other men, we have managed to help somewhat, but her needs now go beyond what we are capable of doing.

THIS IS LEGITMATE AND CAN BE BACKED UP BY TWO AREA PASTORS………

She needs, and those young elementary aged kids need help………..

Does anyone know of an agency that can assist her in getting heat at the very least?

tks

  • Since she is renting, it is the landlord’s responsibility to fix the heater. In my area, by law a landlord MUST provide working heating units (tenants have to pay for the utility that feeds the heater). She can also go on welfare as soon as she divorces the husband–the sooner the better. Check the local churches to see if they have any emergency funs for paritioners or for charity.

  • She should start by contacting her local social services agency. It’s probably the same place she applied for food stamps. Then you could all talk to the different churches and social service organizations who might be able to help with part of it.
