  • Increase in fuel costs has nothing whatsoever to do with airline or aircraft safety. The safety of the aircraft or how expensive a fuel it burns is not safety related. Yes, water in the fuel or other contaminants can then seriously affect aircraft safety specially in midair.

Underpaid pilots and mechanics and air-crew does however pay a small part in the safety issue. Sometimes you may get that one crazy who decides to harm others around him/her cause of low pay. However that don’t happen too much. If an individual thinks he or she is underpaid airlines have an open door policy…the door is open for you to quit and find a better job where you will be happier.

  • Do what American Airlines did. Evaluate everything, from how the fuel is managed for every flight, down to the weight of magazines that don’t get read. Everything that goes into an American Airlines flight is mathematically justified as either making money or not costing money.

Then raise ticket prices and pay pilots and crew more. That is what will really improve safety.

  • Airlines will put less and less fuel on board, allowing for less decision time and options by the flight crew in order to save money — seen it done.
