There is this manager I dont like working with. What can I do?

So like I started at Target on September 23 and I was starting to kind of like it. And I was doin just fine and all, so then there was this manager who said that “several complaints
had came about my register drawer being messy. And then she said it was only 2 people so that isnt several. And so like she sat me down in the office to talk about it she kept walkin around flashing some paper like she was gonna evaluate me but i think she was doin inventory but she just kept walkin up and down the floors and everything but i guess since she was the floor leader it was her job but why right by me every 5 seconds? And then she put me on a register RIGHT in front of the cafetira where she was workin then moved me to the one where i was at earlier and when i got ready to go on break she was lookin at me FROM the Starbucks. And so then after she was like hows that drawer looking? So I said am I being evaluated already!!? She said pardon? I didnt repeat myself, i dont need to get into that argument, I would totally trash that stores reputation right in front of costumers, which she gets mad when I call them that..well what are they? animals??! She was like their “guests” And so my drawer had a few bills outta place and a handful of change in an empty part of the drawer and she was all like look at that. I was like whats wrong with it im gonna fix it? She was like yeah but you have to stay neat and I was like Yeah but when costumers hand me all those wrinkled bills i DONT have time to unwrinkle them until a guest is gone and so she said no do it while their standing in like. That runs up times, then I get complaints and I get fired. And so if a costumer..wait excuse me if a “guest”(what is this a hotel? its costumer) gave you 2.49 cents in change and you saw 9 pennies there and some quarters n stuff, would you make 5 other people wait just to count it? Sorry but I like to keep my times up. Sorry about the back and forth but what should I do?? Who could I report her to? What happened to the open door policy?? Did I mention that Target supports gay people and abortions? Thats where half of that 3 million dollars each week goes to! Anyways Serious answers only

  • they pay you they make the rules, when you start paying them you get to make the rules, there is nothing to report her for.
  • Do like she says, it’s not that difficult and only takes a second or two.
If you can’t get on with your manager or have issues about the companies ethics, then leave.

  • what you can do is just as asked or find a new job……

the manager is NOT asking you to do anything special, they simply expect you to do the job correctly… nothing in your rant is even close to this manger doing anything wrong….
there is NOTHING to report, so you don’t need to worry about who to report it to…

and what difference does it make that as you state:
“Did I mention that Target supports gay people and abortions?”……

IF you want serious answers try asking a serious question….

SO; in closing grow up, do your job as instructed, quit complaining & blaming others for your failures……

    on an unrelated issue:
for the record Target does NOT support abortion, they support a woman’s right to make an informed choice, they actually work very hard to support adoption, and the prevention of unwanted pregnancies….
NO ONE supports abortion, contrary to what “right-to-life” advocates will claim.

  • I think you need to keep your drawer straight. It doesn’t take that long to straighten out crumpled money and put change in the correct drawers. I’m guessing you are young. Just from the maturity level at which this was written. If you don’t like the fact Target supports gays/abortions, I suggest you find another job. Otherwise, do as you are paid to do.

  • The word you’re looking for is customer, not costumer. And if Target wants to call them guests they can, and can expect you to also.

And you’d BETTER count the money the “guests” give you when they give it to you, before you put it in the drawer. It’s your job as a cashier to know that people are paying the right amount – you can’t do that without counting what they give you.

Your comment “am I being evaluated already!!? ” was just being a smarta$$, and not a very bright one. She had counselled you – what did you think, you could just wait a week and THEN start doing things the way you should? You admit yourself that your drawer was messy, “had a few bills outta place and a handful of change in an empty part of the drawer” so apparently she was accurate.

Report HER? Maybe you should look at yourself. Part of her job as a manager is to counsel employees who aren’t meeting standards, and to monitor them to see that the issues are corrected.

If you aren’t happy there, you certainly have the right to quit.

And a word of advice – if you continue with the attitude your question shows, you won’t have to worry about quitting, you’ll be fired.

  • It does not matter if this is Target, a grocery store or a bank, when you are a cashier, you MUST keep your drawer right.

When a customer pays you, in coins or in bills, your job is to count it to make sure the amount is correct and then put in the correct place in your drawer. You should do the same when you give back change to a customer. The reason is that if you do not do this, your drawer will be short or could be over if you shorted a customer. If you are just throwing the money in the drawer wherever just to get to the next customer, you could give a customer a $20 bill back instead of a $1 bill in change or vice versa.

When they fire you and yes they will, since most likely your drawer will be consistently short or over due to your failure to count out money and put in the proper place, will not be an excuse, since this is STANDARD procedure as a cashier. When they hired you, they would have given you a booklet of reasons to be fired and most likely on the top of the list as a cashier there will be that if you are short/over an amount (my guess $5) (and my guess 3 times) they can fire you.

good luck, you will need it

  • Do what she tells you or get fired. That’s how it works. Don’t get an attitude. She is asking you to do a simple thing – keep the drawer neat. Takes 5 seconds. Just do it. You think the manager watching you work is a problem? THAT IS HER JOB!!!!! You have nothing to report her for.

“And so if a costumer..wait excuse me if a “guest”(what is this a hotel? its costumer) gave you 2.49 cents in change and you saw 9 pennies there and some quarters n stuff, would you make 5 other people wait just to count it?” – Yes, I would take the 5 seconds to count it. If you can’t count 49 cents in under 5 seconds, you really should leave the job and concentrate on school.

“Did I mention that Target supports gay people and abortions?” – what the hell does that have to do with anything? Maybe you could find a more bigoted workplace that suits you better. Or maybe you could learn to spell and get proper grammar and you could get a better job.
