Trek FX 7.4 or Specialized Sirrus Elite?

I’m looking into buying a new bike to ride on the road and occasionally a dirt path. I’m trying to choose between the 2013 Trek FX 7.4 and the 2013 Specialized Sirrus Elite. They are both about the same price, but which would you say is a better buy for the money, considering the quality between components and brands? If you are to suggest a 3rd option, please also give your opinion on the two bikes a mentioned above. Thanks!

Update:

I have also noted that the Trek has the Shimano Deore and the Specialized has the Shimano Alivio. Is it right the Deore is a much better rear derailleur?

  • Try them both and get the one that feels the best. The Specialized uses 7 X 28c tires they are a little thin for use on dirt and gravel but you can always change them. The bikes are pretty close in component quality go with the one that feels more comfortable.

  • These two are very close. Sirrus Elite has “internal cable routing”, which makes a neater appearance. The size of tires would depends on the type of road surface you ride on. If you only ride on street, 7×28 is slightly better. The difference is small though.
