Two diodes (D1,D2) made of Germanium and Silicon and two resistors (R1,R2) were connected with Direct Current?

two diodes (D1,D2) made of Germanium and Silicon and two resistors (R1,R2) were connected with Direct Current source (4V) as it is shown in this circuit. If the Current in this circuit is (10mA) then what is the resistamce of Diode D1 in ohm unit ?

  • Negligible current flows through D2 because it is reverse-biassed (the ‘wrong way round’).

That means the whole 10mA (=0.01A) flows through D1 and the 300Ω resistor.

    Voltage across 300Ω resistor is V = IR = 0.01 x 300 =3V

    That means the voltage across D1 is 4V -3V = 1V.
    The current through D1 is 10mA = 0.01A.

    Resistance of D1 = V/I = 1/0.01 = 100Ω (answer B)
