  • Pros:
Very fulfilling job – working with kids is amazing! – this reason always counters all the cons for me.
You’re NEVER bored – the days go by extremely fast.
Good amount of vacation time – trust me…it’s needed.
For the most part, you’re in control of your classroom/job.
Well respected job by public for the most part.
    Generally good benefits.
    Union support.

    Cons:
Very long work days/weeks – 10+ hours/day, sometimes six days a week, not including bringing work home.
Mental exhaustion on a daily basis by the end of the day.
Low pay when considering the amount of education required to become a credentialed teacher.
Many classroom items will be paid for out of your own pocket – expect hundreds if not thousands per year.
Teachers are often portrayed negatively and blamed for the educational status of the country.
High stress job – demanding parents, difficult students, unrealistic educational expectations from the administration/state (ie. No Child Left Behind), non supportive administrators, etc.
    Union.
    Long relatively useless meetings.
