  • Plain and simple the NHL has nothing to do with Boogards death. I think its the family trying to get money out of the NHL, similar to how Michael Jackson’s family is still trying to live off of him by all these lawsuits.

  • There is a really good documentary on Boogard, forget the name of it but it’s on youtube in pieces. The guy’s only chance to make the NHL was fighting of which he started doing long before he made it to the big time. That’s just fact.

My guess, and it’s only a guess, is his family did not seek to sue the league but some unscrupulous attorney approached them with the idea. The NHL is a billion dollar plus corporation. Those deep pockets are irresistible to an attorney. A year or two from now there will be a byline on ESPN that says the NHL has settled with the Boogard family out of court. What that will mean is that the league paid ‘nuisance’ money to make it go away, the attorney gets his 33% plus expenses, the family gets a little money and signs a confidentiality agreement to never discuss the issue again.

  • They’re are looking for money. Boogard CHOSE to do what he did when he was in the NHL. Nobody forced him to fight all the time. Lets be honest, Boogie-Man could barely even skate and he knew his only chance of staying in the NHL was by dropping the gloves and fighting. He made the decision to do that on a regular basis, he knew what the consquences and dangers were of doing that long term. It does not take a Dr to figure what happens to people when they constantly get concussions.

With that being said, the NHL does have some responsibility in the issue. The NHL knows that fans love fighting. If they take fighting out of hockey the sport will lose tons of fans along with it. The NHL should have some kind of support system for players with mental and physical problems.

  • They should be heard and the courts will decide if they have a case.

If they do, it’s in everyone’s best interest for it to be tried (except for the profiteers).

If they don’t, then it’s good to have it addressed in an official judicial capacity, since this is an issue of great concern to athletes and parents of children participating in sport, not just ice hockey.
