What can I do to make my high school football team?

I’m an 8th grader and I’m about 5 feet 7 inches and 115 pounds. I’m a pretty fast runner and have really good cuts. I also have good hands. I want to make the freshman team in high school next year. I don’t just want to make the team, I actually want to play as a starter. I was wondering what I could do over the summer and before tryouts to get faster and better hands. I’ve never learned a playbook or anything like that but I know a lot about football.

  • Get involved in any off season program that the school has in place… You need to run every day to get conditioned and start working in the weight room to get stronger…. You need to catch a lot of balls on a daily basis.. If you can convince some of the guys already on the team to work with you on the side with the playbook and training then that will be advantageous… Talk to the coach to see what options you have as far as positioning is concerned and what you need to do between now and when practices start that will enhance your chances of making the team…. Good luck……
  • I highly encourage you to join your high school football team this upcoming season. Based on your height and weight, as well as your speed and good hands, I believe that the best fit for you is at the wide receiver position. You have the ideal size for a high school freshman wide receiver.

My best advice for you is to work hard and perform very well in practice every day. In addition, what you need to do this (and every) offseason is eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, and either jogging or going for a long run every day. If you do these things, you will get faster, stronger, and into better shape, which will greatly improve your chances of becoming a successful, top notch starting wide receiver in high school football, who could go on to play college football in the future.

  • You’re awfully small to be playing football, but lift and run, and build up as much muscle weight as possible as soon as possible. And where do you live that you have to try out for a football team in high school? My high school is non-cut and we’ve been winning state championships 4 years in a row now. But yeah. Lots of running and lifting. You want to be as strong as possible, and you also want to have a commanding size/appearance to get the attention of the coaches from the get-go. You also want speed. Size/intimidation is great, and will work to your advantage, but actions speak louder than words. Or in this case, actions speak louder than looks. Basically, you want to be really fast and really strong and really intimidating. Never be satisfied with how you are. Once you hit a goal for yourself, just set another one even higher and harder than your last

  • I’m also goin into highschool football but I’m 6′ 160lbs. You probably don’t have access to a weight room if you do use it but if you don’t do 40 push ups and 40 sit ups every commercial when your watching tv. If you need better hands just carry around a ball where ever you are and get as much practice as possible. Endurance is nesseccery for all positions so make sure you run about 10 miles a week
