  • The weak, narrow minded sheep of society feel threatened by anything that threatens their boring little status quo so they react with disgust & want to get rid of the threat immediately. There’s a lot of misconceptions about what goth really is – most people have no idea, including many people who claim to be goth. So they project these misconceptions onto anyone who looks different from them.

You can’t get rid of prejudice. The trick is how you deal with it.

  • Even Goths hate on other Goths. Haters gonna hate…. just be yourself.

  • Give someone some pussy dress cute don’t wear baggy stuff .. Were tight goth stuff .

  • People are afraid of things they don’t understand or things that are different. They have a closed mind and are superficial but you always have to stay strong and show them who’s boss if you raise your chin and show confidence no one will touch you. Never change who you are for someone; be you!

  • People are stupid. Kind of like Goths!

  • Society hates the people who don’t dress up like chavs or Geordie Shore and don’t act like morons and hate everyone.

  • “I just get upset over the fact we cant be ourselves”

This is true, people want us to be “normal” and dress like what other people are wearing. People see us as the trouble makers when really it’s the chavvy type people. I love how those type of people (ignorant, close minded, arrogant) is accepted in society when Goths (quiet, Intelligent and down-to-earth) aren’t. Then you have those type of people who are like “I hate categories, just be yourself” but we are being ourselves naturally? And we just happen to fit in that certain subculture? Giving one word to help describe yourself isn’t going to hurt anyone.

People are afraid of what they don’t understand, especially if we’re the type of people who are wear darker colours which then people naturally label us as “depressed”, “suicidial” or “self harmers”, even “devil worshipers”. Why would any subculture promote that? That’s what a lot of cults do. Not subcultures.

People laugh and stare at me too, but you let that get you down. People just don’t understand.

  • A lot of people are just morons and bigots who think that goths are all evil, satanic, freakish and suicidal. This is not true. It would probably help a great deal if you were to tell them and show them that.

  • People dislike Goths for a variety of reasons; it depends on what end of the “hate spectrum” they’re on.

The more traditional reason stems more out of fear than anything. We go around wearing dark clothing, makeup, and listening to music and reading literature that has very dark, horrific themes. The big unifying thing about the Gothic subculture is that — unlike most people — we actually enjoy things like that. The usual response to Horror and darkness or anything related to Horror and darkness is fear and disgust. We don’t give that sort of response to it, and people don’t quite understand that. They jump to the conclusion that something must be “wrong” with us. To them, we personify Horror and macabre, and they don’t like that. The whole point of “Gothic” is that it’s an approach to Horror that is one of intrigue and empathy rather than fear and hatred.

Then there’s the more modern reasons, which stem from ignorance and are usually hurled at us by the younger crowd. Unfortunately, there have been people in the past who considered themselves “Goths” and didn’t quite get it (“Mansonites”; “Mall Goths”; etc.). They gave the Gothic subculture a bad impression, and it’s what stuck with a lot of people. We’ve been stereotyped as suicidal, wimpy, overly-emotional adolescents who are just going through a rebellious phase. This has led to us getting a lot of hate over the years, and it’s become the more common reason for all of the douchebaggery.

When people decide to be less-than-nice to me simply because I prefer a darker color palette, I just pity them. They’re acting out with fear and hatred simply because they’re too lazy or too stupid (or both) to understand another human being. They’re the ones who have something wrong with them, not me.

Then, of course, there’s the people who are simply bullies and get a kick out of hurting people for no real reason.
