What is a job/career available to an 18 year old who wants to help people?

I was dealt not the greatest hand in regards to life. I do not want others to have to go through what I did. I want to help people in that situation. I just have one small problem: I am only 18. All of the jobs that I want to get into require me to be 21 and already have training. I ended up being a lifeguard at a waterpark. I work full-time with some of my work days per week in excess of 12 hours per day. Despite being a “paid professional” as the insurance company likes to call it if someone drowns in a certain lifeguard’s AOR, I don’t even make enough money to live on my own. Also, when the antifreeze in my car was not where it was supposed to be, namely all over the ground and engine compartment, I called in an hour before my shift because the only other person from where I live who works there did not work that day and thus I had no way to drive the 30 minutes to get there. My manager said that he was going to write me up for an unexcused absence (I refrained from yelling obscenities into my phone). But just to top it off, I don’t help anyone. I work shallow water, so all I do is blow whistles and tell kids to stop climbing the sides of the play area. This is not what I want to do with my life. So all that I am asking is this: what jobs are there for an 18 year old who wants to help people?

  • Assisted living, tutor, school aide (para), bank teller (which I highly recommend because you can work up to being a personal banker and even a manager without a degree), firefighter, preacher, occupational therapy assistant, private detective, customer service representative, loan officer (60k/year), mailman, quality control inspector.

All of these don’t require a degree.

Or you could enter a program and get certified for something like a CNA, carpenter, or personal trainer.

  • You can see if there are any openings at residential facilities for caretakers. Usually you will be working with troubled youth and/or developmentally disabled adults. I will warn you, it is a very emotionally and physically demanding job (and a little hard to get under 21, but it is possible), but if you truly want to help people, these are the people who need it the most. You can also see if any local psychiatric hospitals need Mental Health Workers… they usually prefer people with bachelor’s degrees, but the demand is high and they may take a HS diploma. You may need CPR training for these jobs, but as a lifeguard I would assume you already have this training.

  • You could be a pharmacy technician (via online training course or through community college), a state tested nursing assistant (community college classes), or a basic paramedic (2 year degree for beginner). These jobs don’t make a lot of money but there is opportunity for advancement.

  • Well, if you want to make a real difference, get a degree and be a social worker, or a doctor, or a nurse, or a teacher, or a police officer, or a paramedic, or a fireman.

  • how did your chum get pastime seekers allowence you ought to be 18 yrs of age… thats why the pastime centre is asserting your no longer entitled… so your freind the two lied approximately having the money or lied approximately her age. in case you save going bk your purely save getting refused they’re going to help you come across a activity yet they wont provide you any funds until at last your 18.
