I am looking at Adobe Illustrator and photoshop. Which one is better then the other or is there something else.

Adobe Photoshop is meant to edit photographs. It was not meant for layout and design. It has limited text and vector editing capabilites as it rasterizes every element. Adobe Illustrator is “a comprehensive vector graphics environment” and is better suited for design creation. Illustrator can do just about anything a designer might need to do except manipulate photos.
If manipulating photos is not your main objective, then Illustrator is a better option. Also, if budget allows, Photoshop Elements is a much cheaper alternative to Photoshop.
I’ve always used photshop! Try downloading both, you can get a free trail of the software on adobe.com.
