  • I think solar power technologies and other alternative methods of clean energy is an excellent idea for countries in Africa and other places like it that range from poor to growing economys. It is a major investment that I believe can benefit mankind and gain major positive profitable results and more importantly all around good buisness.

  • One of the problems is the deforestation for cooking fires as their tradition is the three stone fire. The use of firewood has resulted in long forages for wood and there frequently are rape gangs taking advantage of the women while they forage for wood.

    A professor at MIT has proposed making insulated containers of lithium nitrate that could be heated to a high temperature by focusing sunlight through a window. Lithium Nitrate melts at 450 ℉ and can be raised to thousands of degrees. The heat can then be tapped with an oil filled loop to provide a cooking surface when needed.

    I don’t really see this as solving the problem, at least not in the short term, it would be less expensive to teach them to use rocket stoves which are gasifiers that are more efficient at burning material and to teach them to pre-soak their beans overnight before cooking them so it takes less time to cook. Lithium Nitrate cookers are just too expensive to make.

    The Wilson cooker is a good idea but a low tech solution that they can build themselves is needed.
