  • Yeah games suck on a Mac. Not to mention they cost $10 instead of $5. Good idea NOT to get one.

I already told you the worst thing about Macs… they cost $10 instead of $5.

  • It is true that you can purchase a windows PC (dell, hp, sony) for a lot cheaper than a mac PC and maintain the same configuration if not a better configuration. Mac computers I find are overpriced compared to their windows counterparts. I currently own a Dell inspiron from 27 and am still happy with it (even with vista). It just takes a little understanding and maintenance for the computer to act the way you want it to. For macs, I have never owned one, but I have setup networks using mac computers and I will admit they are functional, easy to use, and certainly a viable option for you.

When purchasing your laptop do not let internet browsing, downloading, listening to music, and other basic things sway your decision. Both types of computers will perform them well with little problems. You also won’t have to worry about hardware too much either for at this day and age the standards of technology are set rather high, therefore it would be difficult for you to not find a decent configuration.

With that being said, you mentioned that you only play online games and such. I assume you don’t play games such as COD4 or Left4Dead so you don’t have to purchase a Windows computer for you to do what you want. Just be warned that mac computers don’t encompass the wide variety of games that windows does. Online games will all work just fine.

Mac computers are generally more stable, safe, and efficient than windows computers. However, this does not mean that mac computers are free of any viruses or damage. On the contrary they are just as susceptible to viruses as windows if not more. This is because macs make up about 10% of all computers out there so virus creators would logically target windows, the largest percentage. And by more susceptible I mean that most mac users don’t run antivirus which makes their computer more vulnerable than a windows computer with GOOD antivirus software. Also keep in mind that any computer can be kept well, even windows, if it is maintained properly.

Now the question comes of how much you’re willing pay mac computers will be more expensive than their windows counterparts. Even if they have the exact same hardware(processor, ram, etc.). If you feel than you don’t want to put forth a lot of money than you would probably be fine getting a Dell or Hp. If you want a relatively more stable computer that is easier to maintain, than get a mac.

If you want to purchase a mac, I’m afraid I can’t give you many tips on maintaining it, just be sure to have antivirus software and a setup firewall. That should be enough.

If you bought a windows laptop(dell, hp, etc) than here are some tips that will help keep your computer in shape.

    1. MyDefrag is an excellent defragment software that has scripts for daily, weekly, and monthly defrags.

    2. Download avast antivirus, excellent antivirus software

    3. you may use the windows firewall, but if you are tech savvy and want a powerful firewall try comodo firewall (just be warned that it is difficult to configure and if you don’t want to bother, don’t try)

    4. CCleaner, the standard cleaning software that every windows user should have.

All of these are the basic tools you will need to get started on your computer. There are many more programs out there, but this is all you need to start. Just know that it is your decision whether to remain up to date on your computer’s maintenance.

Whew, this is long. Hope I didn’t bore you to death. Good luck with your decision!

  • A computer is an investment. Spending money on a 3 dollar PC that will break in 4 years is a waste. Spending 9 on a Mac that will last is a smart bet.

If you want a desktop, I would recommend the Mini Mac. It doesn’t come with a screen or keyboard, but you probably already have those.

If you want a laptop, I would recommend the white Macbook. It has many features that are perfect for your usage type and doesn’t cost a fortune.

  • some colleges actual require a mac. extremely arts sort of colleges. I have been given a mac after giving up on my HP reason it saved breaking. i admire my macbook. Its super when you consider which you additionally can run abode windows on it! although in case you elect the abode windows set up CD to take action yet once you have formerly owned a computer then your sturdy to bypass. The mac is amazingly common to apply and that they understand what they are doing. Its consumer friendly. i latterly completely wiped my confusing force and restored it no problem subsequently of time gadget. If i did that with a computer i assure there’d be a difficulty. Get a mac, its nicely well worth the money, its cool, and its sturdy. And oh yeah. i’m SO MAD that the recent macbooks got here out! i offered the old style actually precise whilst they got here out. 🙁

  • And, don’t forget that you can run the Microsoft operating system on a Mac as well as the Mac’s. Two for the price of one. Viruses, 97 for a Mac, 97,0 for a PC….. nuff said? Mac’s do run for a very long time with almost zero problems. So, over the long run you will still have the Mac’s long after you have gotten out of college and you’re only 16 today. That being said, don’t skimp of what you get on it. Lot’s of memory and a large disk drive.

  • Get a Mac. They don’t get viruses. You can dual-boot Windows if you need to. The new macs are all Intel.

Yeah, they cost more upfront. Apple makes their money selling the hardware. But you don’t need to buy an antivirus, firewall or antispyware programs. Macs just work. I have better things to do than computer maintenance.

Macs come with all the programs any average person would need and the ones you don’t get can be had for free from the SourceForge.

  • i am currently writing on a mac provided by my school (the only 1-1 laptop initiaitve in the area). They are definitely good because they are very virus-free. my family got 3 dells in 4 years and if we had just gotten a mac in the first place, it would be a lot cheaper. They also have good warranties. I recommend a mac, therefore you can use it for much longer.

  • ok, im doing nearly finished an honours degree in computer science,

I know from personal use, and contact of different brands day in day out, through work ,college, friends and family asking for help, that mac is there way to go hands down,

unfortunetly one of the things you want to do is play games, which is the mac’s downfall , its amazing for everything other than gaming,

if you want to game get dell xps, other than that i wouldnt touch a dell

as for the same processor …god no, they may be alike, but the operating systems requite completely different demands from the chipsets

anyway in short, since you want to play games on your computer (im assuming something more advanced gfx wise than poker ) then get a dell xps

  • Well, if you want a laptop with a webcam, i say you get the Macbook Pro. But if you just want a regular laptop with very fast web browsing i suggest you get a G60-507DX Notebook from HP. They can go for 3 hours without a charger. So it depends on if you want a webcam or just a regular laptop.
