What makes Google so good/popular?

The main reasons are; simplicity, ease of use, relevant results, fast results, extensive results and integrated sources.

Simplicity | Search page is very simple and you cannot go wrong as there are not too many options. Very easy on the eyes due to the colour scheme and laid out in a way that allows you to browse results and suggested terms easily.

Ease of Use | Simple to use due to the minimal amount of options used. Search box at both the top and bottom of the page and search results can be refined in one click. You can also change to the various types of result (image/map etc) with one click using the same search term.

Relevant Results | If you want to find something, you will find it with Google. This is due to Google having one of the best algorithms for working out relevance and indexing pages correctly. Yahoo would be a close second.

Fast Results | Most searches take seconds, if not milliseconds, to complete. This is good news for fast surfers but anyone who likes to have a coffee in-between searches is gonna struggle! This amazing speed is due to Google having one of the highest ranked resources of computer power in the world.

Integrated Sources | When your search results are displayed, and if Google thinks it’s relevant, then you will now be provided with video, news, dictionary, maps and calculator results. And I’m sure many more – those are the only results I can remember seeing.

Extensive Results | When you search, you normally click on one of the first links. But Google has probably found many more pages with relevant content. Google has one of the biggest indexes in the world – knowledge is power. Because if a site is not indexed, the search engine will not show it in search results.

It is the current leading search engine for a reason – it works. When you type something – you get the result you are looking for. It is because you don’t even have to think to use it that makes this search engine so powerful. And now that just about everyone in the world knows about Google, most people use it without thinking. I cannot remember the last time I went to search for something without automatically going to Google.

Google was one of the first to have a very very nice searching engine with nice algorithms.

I believe the Yahoo was not that good compare to google back then and since people are used to google, they continue using it, and rarely likes a change unless it is much much better, if you know what i meant.

Since yahoo is now at the same level as google, many still use google because they have been using that for ages. Also with some topics (political usually) search engines respond differently.

I dont know what is up with google lately, when I open up a search click on the link I want, it takes me to the wrong page everytime =S I have to then go back click the link again and then I will get what I want.

I may have to move over to Yahoo, cause this has been a problem for weeks even when I re-install Vista!

Dont know I only use Google, probably cause of school and never got out of the habbit.

Finding what you need, and using a search engine is much about being used to using it, knowing it.

As to what makes Google good? Well, they employ only geniusses, and they have great algorithms to control the entries in their search results.

At this moment, Google definately dominates the search engine market, and they are coming up strong on other markets too with all the extras they provide (adsense, Google documents, Google reader, Google news, …)

Google Searches More Than 4 Billion URLs

Google crawls and indexes more useful web pages than any other search engine, thus increasing the likelihood of its returning what your seeking.

Most results are found in less than a second.

Maybe More people Know Google than Yahoo.

well I use yahoo to read the news and check mail but when I want to search if I’m not on yahoo I use google because most search engines have a limited amount of searches that they allow, Whereas google is quick to load up and can find any single site on the internet and with the right virus scan you can get a tick of approval to the safe sites so you don’t go into any bad sites with viruses,

Google is loads more customizable in terms of search criteria and has tons more useful features like the image seach, maps, language tools, they even provide a free email service like yahoo. Simply the best all around search engine with the most pages indexed.

I believe that the same reason why you use yahoo, is the same reason why I use google.com ..

I got used to it, and I have a fast toolbar for searching with google.com as well.

I have no special reason why I am using google.com and not yahoo, but I think it is just because I am used to use it and I find pretty much everything I need on google, so I see no reason for changing to another search machine, plus I think google is easy and simple as well.

Google is just the biggest search company and they are the best at what they do. If yahoo is fine for you than just use that. Some people think Yahoo’s page is too cluttered. They have a search page that looks more like google at search.yahoo.com
