Where does a potjie pot originate from?

I’m doing a design of a potjie pot for a charm to represent how I feel about South Africa and I just need to know if the potjie pot (3 legged cast iron pot) comes from S.A and if not where does it come from.

Originally it was Dutch, brought to SA way back in the 17 Century
