  • There are several ways to look at this…

    1) If it’s a first date, and it was the man’s idea, the man should pay.

    2) If it’s a first date, and it was the woman’s idea, either she should pay or they shoudl split it.

    3) If the couple knows each other well, and this is just another date, I would suggest splitting the check. This may sound cheap, but, as other posters have pointed out, most guys can’t afford to pay every single time.

    4) If the check comes and neither person wants to pay, a game of thumb wrestling will help you decide.

  • Whoever does the inviting. Unless its discussed ahead of time and it is agreed to go dutch. Then each pays for their own. I don’t believe a guy should pay all the time and I make good money so I do pay every other time. But thats just me.

  • The person who initially ‘asked’ to go out on the date should pay the date.

  • When you’re in a relationship it should always be split somehow. For example, sometimes I pay for the whole bill and next time we go out we might split it and some other time we might go to mini golf and she’ll pay for me. It just depends on what day it is, were we’re going and if someone has the money or not. The days of expecting a guy to pay for everything is over; thank god.

  • Whoever invited the date to dinner is usually responsible. If it was a mutual idea – the check should be split.

  • Whoever asked the other one out should pay. I always offer to pay my half because I like the expensive stuff and don’t want to feel obligated to eat chicken when I want lobster.

  • Usually its the man, but sometimes I offer to pay when me and my boyfriend go out on “dates” just cause I know he can’t afford to take me out to eat ALL the time.

  • I believe the person who purposed the idea of the date should! I also think that the other person should leave the tip then! It is just good manners.

  • Been there, done that. Yes. Absolutely. Then you don’t ‘owe’ anything. Good idea, til you know him!
