  • Final 8: France, England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, Scotland, Whales.

Final 4: France, England, New Zealand then either Ireland or Scotland

Final 2: France vs New Zealand

Winner…. Well I gave up ho[e once Ireland got knocked out but I like the All Blacks.

I jst would love to see Canada vs Ireland even in a prelim match.

  • Ok lets Look at the contenders the lain ones at least: France, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Ireland, England and well the others will need miracles.

Clear favorites are at the top but i would not like to put emphasis on the fact that they are at the top but rather how far ahead thay are. New Zealand are playing on their own level and what a lot of experts nowadays call perfect rugby. They are just brilliant to watch and play so well together as a team. They have depth in their squad and are resting their major players from next years Super14. One thing I see no one else mentioned is that they sometimes blow out in Big matches. Few could argue that at the last few World Cups New Zealand have had the best team in the world but only to lose in the knockout stages.

France, yes, they have a good team. My question to you is would they be so heavily favored if the World Cup was somewhere else? If they win it will be because they have home advantage thats my opinion anyway.

The Bokke, their lack of forward dominance in the Northern Hemisphere is been a hindrance to their sucesses there. They have the only team that can match NZ. But up in Europe its a different game and SAs ability to change has often been their downfall.

If Aus win will it be a surprise??? The one team that can never be written off. With the media going on about NZ SA and France the stage is set for them to play the rugby they play so well. Their ability to perform under pressure is legendary and often strikes fear into the opposition.

Ireland has a good team, I might be mistaking if I say their best ever but this team will cause an upset or two next year. They have advanced very well and can now compete not necessarily beat but compete with the top teams in the world.

England well yes they will also need a miracle and that might not be enough.

My opinion is that the All Blacks will overcome their disability to win in the knockouts and take it. If not the Bokke will they are ready to once again take the crown.

  • The British teams with the exception of Ireland are all pants at the moment. Scotland are improving, but bless ’em, they’re coming from a long way behind. The same could be said of England, though not sure about the improving part. Wales are pretty good, should do quite well. France are good, but tend to get all udgy and blow apart if they get riled.

The Aussies, by their own admission are not having a good run at the moment, but who knows by next summer? The South Africans look very strong, we had none of the stars of Springbok rugby over for the Autumn Internationals and they walked all over us.

The Japanese have come on a long way since the last World Cup, as have the Yanks, but I don’t feel the sport gets enough money, publicity or public support as it does in the big ‘rugby nations’ of the world for them to get too far along in the competition.

I think the semis will be Ireland, France, South Africa and New Zealand. New Zealand to win, but you may as well toss a coin to guess who they’ll play in the Final.

  • The All blacks. There is something different about this team compared to other teams before them. Their dominance upfront is amazing. Every forward is capable of playing in the back line and they commit less players than everybody else to the breakdown. Combined with the speed on the flanks, Richie McCaw and Dan Carter I think they are going to dominate everybody they play. The only possible competition will be South Africa and Ireland. France have no chance if they meet NZ look at the last couple of tests. 1 year is not enough time to close that gap.

  • Has to be New Zealand but France may yet have a shout in it. The French are very temperemental. One week brilliant, sublime running rugby and the following week they cannot hold the ball. They have excellent backs and excellent forwards it is just a matter of if they can gel over a period of six matches. I still go for New Zealand to win. Possibly over France in the final as long as they don’t meet in the quarters or semis.

  • Given the All Blacks utterly gubbed France the other week, that doesn’t bode particularly well for the French. I’m not too sure about South Africa either, given they lost to the Irish and also the English. No shame in losing to Ireland at the minute, but to England?

I’d go for either Australia or the All Blacks, with perhaps an outside bet on the Irish.

  • Well this will be a difficult question to answer as I think that if you take away what has happened to the Bokke on their tour to the UK and how they have bounced back I think that they will have a good chance as any of the other Nations ( Ireland, New Zealand Ausralia ) one team we must not forget is the Pumas I think they are the dark horse, but I believe it will be the Team that beats the Kiwis in the final and I hope it will be the BOKKE ( Springboks – South Africa ) for those who don’t know.

I watched them play the world XV I was impressed with the up and coming talent South Africa have.

  • There are a few contenders:

    New Zealand

    France

    Australia

    South Africa

On current form I would have to say New Zealand. They have however been favouratives a few world cups and has blown it. I also beleive that France has a very good chance, especially playing at home, but they are very unpredictable.

I predict a final between either New Zealand and France or New Zealand and South Africa.

What a tournament to look forward to.

  • either new zealand or south africa. the all-blacks are probably the toughest team in world rugby to date and will take some stopping, whereas with south africa- i know in recent years, they haven’t been doing well since their dramatic victory 11 years ago when they lifted the world cup at their home territory. but i wouldn’t write them off. if their recent defeat of england is anything to go by, then south africa look odds on in giving any team a run for their money. i’d prefer it to be south africa but if not, then i’d opt for either new zealand or perhaps france. they are very good too and have had a few victories up their sleeves too. as for england, even by getting rid of andy robinson as head coach, i don’t think that alone would make that much of a difference. their losing streak has been very poor in recent times and i don’t believe they will repeat their 23 triumphs in Oz at this world cup and win it.

i am not a massive rugby enthusiast myself; i don’t even know the full rules of the game!- but when global sporting events such as the rugby world cup come along, for those interested in sport in general, its hard not to take any notice and to ignore the hype. it should be a great spectacle nonetheless, next year in france.
