Well personally, I like a nice weekend with Satan. We go the park, maybe the zoo to feed the giraffes. Then we have a picnic by the lake.
Atheists, with a capital “A”, did not do that. A very tiny group of atheists did it. One of them was sufficiently lucid that he gained followers.
But there are so few of them that most atheists have never even heard of them. Some atheists even claim that atheist Satanists do not exist, despite the many books and web sites produced by atheists promoting Laveyan Satanism.
But to answer your question … Anton LaVey was an atheist who believed in magic and wanted a religion. He hated Christianity so he adopted the name Satan as a metaphor, giving the word a new meaning. I think part of it was that he just wanted to annoy Christians.

Your question is a non-sequitur. It is based on a false premise. Since Atheists don’t believe that Satan exists, they would have no interest in Satanism.
