Why did my car suddenly not go into gear (manual) whilst driving?

As I was driving I went to put my car in 3rd gear and it wouldn’t go into gear, so i pulled over to the side of the road. Car was still running but wouldnt move. Tried to put it in first gear and nothing. But it still starts. Please help.

Sounds like the shift linkage is broken. It probably has a plastic bushing that broke off at the transmission or on the shifter. You would know if the transmission blew because it would be loud and violent.

P.S. Be gentle when shifting, never slam gears.
