Why do I get headaches when I drink?

I am a 19 year old girl (108 lbs if that matters) and I have never been drunk or even “buzzed” because I can’t finish half a cooler without becoming extremely sleepy and developing a bad migraine headache. Is this normal? Do others just drink through the migraine to become drunk, or is it abnormal to be getting headaches? Am I just a super light weight?

Update:

I am Canadian and I am of legal drinking age here so don’t answer this just to tell me I’m a criminal

  • Drinking alcohol causes dehydration, which is the real cause of alcohol-related headaches and hangovers.

  • You COULD have an allergy, but chances are you just aren’t drinking enough water. Alcohol dehydrates you which causes headaches. Before you go out for a night of drinks, make sure you have a lot of the clear stuff all day long. 🙂 Best of luck! I’m Canadian too! Woo! Maple Syrup and Igloo’s FTW! Gooaaalllllll. 😉

  • Dehydrated is usually why you get headaches in a hangover, but if you’re not even buzzed that wouldn’t happen.

Don’t know what to say other than drink 8 oz of water for every drink.

  • there are a number of components which effect blood alcohol at the same time with weight and gender and there are components which effect the form you react to multiple blood alcohol tiers, at the same time with how hydrated you’re. attempt ingesting a pitcher of water after each alcoholic drink. some human beings additionally get problems, no longer from the alcohol, yet from different components like the tannins in purple wine.

  • Don’t force it. If your body does not respond well to alcohol than just stay away from it. My sister in law has the same problem and is convinced she has some type of allergy to alcohol. She is a periodontist with medical training so I trust her judgment.

  • You might be sensitive to gluten and since coolers are malt beverages that might be what’s triggering your migraine headaches.Try finding alcohol drinks that are gluten free and see if that works out for you.
