Why do Jehovah’s Witnesses say they never made a claim of being prophets?

When over and over again their literature proves otherwise?

“Those who do not read can hear, for God has on earth today a prophetlike organization, just as he did in the days of the early Christian congregation.” Watchtower 1964 Oct 1 p.601

  • Definition of a prophet:
A prophet (from the Greek word προφήτης, meaning one who “utters forth”) is a person who is believed to speak for God (or the gods), with the purpose of delivering a divinely inspired message. A prophet often operates through means of recitation, divination or channeling, and the process of receiving a message from the divine is known either as prophecy or as revelation. In popular usage, a prophet is someone who is believed to foretell the future.

The Watchtower governing body has put themselves in the position of a prophet in declaring new prophecies and teachings on a weekly basis. It is hard for the brain washed members to keep up with the changes in the teachings. They have exalted themselves above the teachings of Jesus and are in grave danger of their immortal souls if they do not recant and repent.

    Galatians 1:6-9
    New International Version (NIV)
    No Other Gospel
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!

They have become accursed for teaching beyond what Jesus taught us to follow.

    Revelation 22:18-19
    New International Version (NIV)
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

They will lose out on everlasting life if they do not turn around and put on spiritual sack clothe and ashes.

  • Because admitting the fact that they have claimed to be a prophet would have the implication of showing them to be a false prophet due to their many false predictions. (Deuteronomy 18:20-22)

Jehvovah’s Witnesses on this site have a habit of conveniently redefining words to suit their own agenda. When you say to them that their organization taught falsehoods in the past, they say “no that’s not true – a falsehood is when you deliberately teach error. If you unintentionally teach error it is not a falsehood that you taught”.

They also speak out of both sides of their mouths. When they want people to look up to them as God’s spokesman, their organization claims to be a prophet. But when you highlight their false predictions of the past: “oh, we never claimed to be a prophet.”

They make lying politicians look like saints.

When a religion speaks out of both sides of its mouth and its members have to stoop to changing the meaning of words to avoid admitting the truth, then you know that religion cannot be “The Truth” but must be a deceptive and deluded cult with members living in a twisted reality mentally.
