Why has the Roman Catholic church involved itself with Thatcher’s funeral ….?

when she never showed the Catholic church any respect during her lifetime? She refused to meet pope John Paul II on his visit to the UK in 1982. She was born a Protestant, she lived as a Protestant & she died as Protestant. For a Roman Catholic bishop to read a prayer at her funeral was inappropriate.

  • The Holy Mother Roman Catholic Church used to deal more harshly with these English schismatic and heretical Protestants. Margret Thatcher is already dead so she cannot be burned at the stake. But the Pope could have ordered that her bones be crushed, cremated, and thrown into a river to remove any possibility that she might rise from the dead at the last judgment. That is what a former Pope ordered be done to the Englishman and heretic John Wycliffe.

“The Council of Constance declared Wycliffe (on May 4, 1415) a stiff-necked heretic and under the ban of the Church. It was decreed that his books be burned and his remains be exhumed. This last did not happen till twelve more years later, when at the command of Pope Martin V they were dug up, burned, and the ashes cast into the river Swift which flows through Lutterworth.”

  • The pope is the devil

  • When your decision matters, someone will let you know.

  • Part of the Catholic Church’s reason for existing is
to deliver the peace and mercy of Jesus Christ to the whole world.
That is what was attempted at Mrs. Thatcher’s funeral.

Catholic leaders need to show a good example of the grace and peace of God.
Church leaders did that when Mrs. Thatcher died.
If leaders had not shown such gentle mercy,
surely their lack of mercy at the time of death would have been noticed and condemned.

    I am Roman Catholic.
    Peace be with you.

  • Nothing about her funeral had anything to do with her wishes. It was a civic ceremony thrown by the government, using her corpse as an excuse. She had specifically said she didn’t want a state funeral, and yet here was one in everything but name.

    Her whole funeral was inappropriate.

  • Funerals are the common denominator of our lives. To any Christian( whatever denomination) the central fact of life is God. God has no denomination yet embraces all that come to Him regardless of their lifetime denomination or cultural setting.Prime ministers have to serve the whole country and many in UK are RC believers. Within all the constraints of democratic forces Mrs Thatcher did what she believed best to represent the majority for the benefit of the whole .

  • No actually it was entirely appropriate. He put his pride and anger aside and instead showed her compassion, Mercy and forgiveness.
How would the world be if we all did the same.

  • The whole thing was inappropriate!

  • because we live by the gospel “love you enemies”

  • Why is in inappropriate? Jesus tells us to love one another. Even those who hate and persecute us. For the Catholic bishop to read a prayer at her service is absolutely in line with the faith. We are lucky he was allowed since England is still so anti-Catholic.

OH. So your problem is not that England has spend centuries executing Catholics. Your problem is that you yourself don’t like Catholics.

    Not very Christian of you.

  • The Catholic church was invited by the UK government to participate as were other religions.
The Catholic church accepted the invitation.
As for Margaret Tatcher’s towards the church – it does not matter because central to Christianity is forgiveness.
As for your belief that the Catholic Church is more affiliated with paganism I believe comes from the issue of statues, paintings etc, whereby Catholics pray in front of them I will explain the fallacy with your belief. When you look at a photo of your children are you idolizing the photo or the people the photo represents? Of course you are using the photo to enhance the moment of that experience by using the photo.
Similarly , when I pray in front of a statue of Jesus I am not praying to the piece of plaster but I am using the piece of plaster to enhance my experience by enhancing my visual connection. Our visual plays a huge role in enhancing our experience – movies for example.
Yes I am Roman Catholic and all I can say is may Margaret Thatcher be with God. While controversial in her life I believe that she was the right person for the right time for the UK. It is easy to make appeasing decisions but extremely difficult to make difficult but necessary decisions.
Best wishes to you and I hope you continue to seek greater understanding out of knowledge than hatred out of ignorance.

  • In 1520 the reformer Martin Luther published three works in quick succession: An Appeal to the Christian Nobility of the German Nation (Aug.), Concerning the Babylonish Captivity of the Church (Oct.), and On the Liberty of a Christian Man (Nov.).[11]:225 In these works Luther set out his doctrine of salvation through grace alone, rejected certain Catholic practices, and attacked the abuses and excesses of the Catholic Church.[11]:225–6 In 1521, Henry VIII responded to Luther’s criticisms with a work known as the Assertio, written with the editorial assistance of More. In light of this work, Pope Leo X rewarded Henry VIII with the title Fidei defensor (“Defender of the Faith”) for his efforts in combating Luther’s heresies.[11]:226–7
Martin Luther then attacked Henry VIII in print, calling him a “pig, dolt, and liar”.
Subsequently, Henry requested an annulment from Pope Leo X, but he declined because of Christ’s strict teachings on divorce. Henry the proceeded to break away from the Catholic Church and declare himself the pope of the Church of England and give himself a divorce. Anyone who didn’t like the idea was killed; for example Thomas More who was Henry’s loyal Chancellor.
Because England was a powerful country and Protestant, Protestantism became strong. If it weren’t for England being coerced into Protestantism under penalty of torture and death, then Europe would still be mostly Catholic and would not be so eager to embrace godless secular socialism.

  • As was answered the last time you asked this question, they were invited. Remember: When you die, no one is showing up to the funeral but they will be at the party.
