Uh, fruit comes from trees or plants. Milk comes from a cow’s udder…..not exactly a tree or plant.
Fruit is often taken to mean things with seeds, but we continue to call them fruit when we grow seedless grapes or oranges.
So we are weakening our term fruit because our perception does not really depend on having seeds in it.
When we have a cucumber or squash with seeds in it, many object to calling it fruit… We think of it as a vegetable, and we will find it grouped with vegetables for most culinary purposes. Then when we grow it without seeds do we feel certain it is not a fruit?
A grain is a seed, and we do not call it fruit. A fruit, the strawberry, has its seeds outside of the fruit, so it does not contain seeds.
Yes, our traditional classification of what is a fruit has taken a beating. Milk is a fruit of our labour, which does not really qualify it as a fruit in our usual weak classification system.
Probably a term like an ovary in the plant world comes fairly close to what we mean, without mentioning seeds, but somehow including a strawberry that is like an inside-out ovary.

fruit has three definitons:
a biological definiton based on scientific analyis if the function and form. a tomato is a fruit.
a common or lay person’s definiton: a tomato is a veggie. commonly accepted
a legal definiton – what a state of the Feds define it to be.
