  • Xi’an is in Northern China. Unlike areas to the south of the Yangtze, the plain of Northern China generally runs uninterrupted by mountains and has far fewer rivers. As a result, communication by horse is rapid within the plain. As a result, the Xi’an spoken language is very similar to Beijing…I would say it’s 70% close to Bejinghua.

Note that during the Mongol invasion in the early 13th century, the entire Xi’an Han population and the Jin army abandoned their city and moved to a nearby province. Later on, new people repopulated the city.

There are many Hui people in Xi’an, and they have their own distinct language. They could have influenced the dialect and culture of Xi’an city.
