Will a car dealer place a collection on my credit report if I have walked out with the merchant copy?

I know this question may sound stupid but I appreciate your time in answering it.

Here is the story:

I went to my car dealer service department a week ago and purchased a car remote battery. The person who helped me asked for my Driver’s license. He entered my driver’s license information to his computer system and later asked me to pay the battery at the cashier. The cashier swiped my credit card and gave me the merchant copy and customer copy of the receipt. Both are stamped “paid” and signed by the cashier. I did not noticed that I have walked out with both copies until early this week. I am concerned that the dealer will ruin my credit by reporting a collection to the the credit bureaus since the dealer has my license information and do not find the merchant copy of the receipt that shows I have paid for the item.

Thank you and your time is greatly appreciated.

  • It will show up in the system as paid, and they will have another copy when they close the daily batch. as for giving your driver’s license, they have no reason to ask for it so dont EVER show it

  • Even though you have both transaction copies the system will show that its paid.
