Will a cat become hydrated by licking water off its body?

My kitty is sick and needs water/food. The vet has me syringe feeding her but she’s miserable while I do this. But all the food that misses her mouth she obsessively licks clean. It sounds mean… But I was thinking of soaking her in the tub and having her “clean” herself off. To get some fluids in her body. She had fluids sub-q injected on Thursday night. The vet can do it again Monday morning… But I don’t want her to be dehydrated or starve in the mean time. HELP!

  • No, do not soak your kitty in water as you will drop it’s temperature which can be fatal.

It is hard to force feed a cat, but you have to do it to get her better.

    Why is your cat dehydrated?

  • My cat got here back from the vet and had a difficult time getting over the anesthesia. She couldn’t eat, however would seem on the bowl then meow at me, like i am hungry! I took some moist cat meals and put slightly in her mouth. She would swallow it. Not too much, just a little. After a week of that, she could consume common food once more. If he is getting some water, thats excellent. Preserve the water dripping, to make sure he’ll drink.
