Will my parent’s car insurance go up if I were to get my driver’s license?

My parents have car insurance from Allstate and we live in NY. I’m 19 years old.

I want to get a driver’s license but my mom kept on saying how their insurance would go up if I got mines. Is that true?

When my brother got into an accident while driving, Allstate discovered my bro’s relationship with my parent’s. After adding his name, my parent’s car insurance doubled.

  • yes it is true, basically everyone in the household must be insured if they have a license even if they don’t have a car.

what megan says is true if you parents lie and say you have no license then it would not go up, I’ve done that before myself

  • No as long as they don’t report you on the insurance, my little sister is also nineteen my mom has not added her to the insurance and she has had her license for a year and she has a car( Car is insured but not her the driver) . As long as you don’t get into an accident you’ll be fine, but if you do get into one, I don’t think you’ll be covered so it’ll have to come out of your pocket…… If your mom does report you to the insurance yes it will sky rocket, but Allstate has discounts if you are a good academic student, it should lower if you have a certain grade point average..

  • No, it won’t. You can get your DL.
If your driving your moms car it’s worse to not have a license than to have one. If your mom adds you onto her insurance plan than it would go up being that your a new drivers/minor and all that but if you drive responsibly meaning keep a good driving record you will get discounts. Plus you can get good students discount and again all this applies only if you were being added onto the insurance plan.

  • If you get your license, No

If you get insured with their company, yes it will go up
