  • A lot of places have dress codes about visible tats, usually high paying professions. I had to let a woman go recently when she came back from a business trip to Japan. She got a very nice tat behind her ear, she was earning just under a million dollars a year.

  • As someone said before, a more respectable place may not allow tattoos. However, I’m not too sure about high schools. I have a teacher who has a giant tattoo all over his arm, and he doesn’t have to cover it up. I guess it just depends where you are if you’re thinking about a teaching job. I don’t think it would matter with journalism, though. I know some people who are in that that have tattoos.

  • It depends on what kind of career you pursuing. There are many industries where having visible tattoos is not generally accepted (face, hands, neck). Usually these are jobs where you deal with the general public or they just have a strict dress code. These can include medicine, military, corporate offices, teaching, etc. Then there are careers or specific companies that don’t mind so much, such as mechanics, chefs, IT, etc. Generally though it’s best to dress on the conservative side at first to interview and the first few days on the job. Then you can get a sense of what is allowed and start to push the envelope. That’s why in general, tattoos on hands/face would be considered a hindrance because a lot of people hiring will judge someone on their appearance, regardless of the company’s dress code, before they get to know the person’s qualifications.

  • Well, first of all, it depends on what kinds of work you do or jobs you’d be looking for (or the company, our even the whims of the person doing the interview). You’ll find that it matters to some, but not to others. Yeah, it may affect your future- but so does every other choice you make in life.

However, it’s weird to me that a tattoo artist would refuse to do the work because of the effect it may have on your life. It’s not a hard spot to tattoo, it’s not like it’s on your face, it’s not obscene… I don’t know. I think if you want it, do it. And if those guys won’t do it, go somewhere else, because most tattoo artists wouldn’t give it a second thought.

  • Depends on where you are going to have it placed. If it is where you can’t hide it easily then yes, it’s okay to have a tattoo.

Whenever having a tattoo, especially for women it is very important to consider future employment, especially in a corporate environment. Most employers don’t care about some tattoos unless they are easily visible by coworkers or causes the employee to wear clothing that may be inappropriate for the environment.

If you are considering employment in a field where it may be a problem to cover the tattoo with clothing then no, do not get the tattoo. If you are able to cover the tattoo with clothing but in doing so the clothing may appear to be out of place (i.e..long sleeves in a hot environment) which may draw attention then no, do not get the tattoo.

  • A good artist won’t do hand tattoos unless the person is heavily tattooed already and has been in their job for x amount of years.

Hand tattoos will very much limit your career options. And I am speaking as someone who is very visibly tattooed. I made sure I was able to get visible tattoos in my chosen career before I started getting them. If you really want a hand tattoo wait until you have finished university and have been in your graduate job for at least five years but even then I would advise against it.

  • Dont do it…..

Get a tattoo that can be covered up.

You never know what could happen tomorrow. You might end up being in charge of a high end business or whatever.

You wouldn’t want to be in that position with a tribal tattoo standing out like dogs balls. It sets a bad Impression. Also might put strain on when you meet you girlfriend/her parents.

Although you should never judge a book by its cover. Everybody does it.

Plus imagine being with that, you’d be a badass grandpa, but… Really?

  • It could very well depending on what kind of jobs you would have, I have a friend who went through college and applied for a job as a accountant but she was turned down because she had her wedding ring tattooed on her hand. Most professional jobs would turn you down because of any forms of tattooing and or piercing’s not unless you have a way of covering them up. There is a crème that you can put over tattoos and it will conceal them, they sell it here: www.veilcovercream.com/products/tattoo-cover.html I’ve heard it works pretty good.

Overall I think it’s a really nice tattoo. Good luck (:

  • yes, any tattoo that you can’t easily cover up is going to limit you in who will hire you depending on the profession you’re trying to get into.

if you’re going to work as a mechanic or a carpenter or a tattoo artist then the tattoo isn’t going to hurt you. If you’re planning to become a doctor or an engineer or go into the corporate world then it will severely limit your options.

  • Its iffy. Depends on the job and the area. I live in LA and no one out here cares
