Would insurance cover this electrolysis?

I know that insurance can cover some cosmetic things if there is enough of a problem posed. For me, I’ve had abnormal eyebrow hair growth since I was young and I’ve had to get my eyebrows done every week since age ten (I was bullied a lot about having a uni-brow, etc). After about two years of having them done regularly, I developed a severe allergic reaction to the wax which resulted in my skin getting peeled off with the hair. Every week when I got them done, the skin would rip right off (from the top and bottom), scab, and eventually peel off about four days later (which, to be honest, some times worked in my favor because a lot of eyebrow places would feel bad and give me a free waxing :P). Anyways, I was wondering if I had a chance of having insurance pay for electrolysis.

  • False – cosmetic procedures are never covered, unless they’re RESTORATIVE.
  • No – insurance will not cover this problem.
= if you are paying $20 (average cost for eyebrow waxing in my area) – 26 times a year = that’s $520

Where as electrolysis is $60 for 30 mins = so it’s not like it’s going to cost you more than what you currently pay… since it will last longer.

Are you fair skinned? Can you do laser? That is the best and the cheapest. It will actually permanently remove the hair. Where as electrolysis is not a permanent solution.

Just some advice = if you skin is peeling off for 4 days = stop want you are doing.. after it happened twice why did you keep doing it. It’s not like you didn’t have other options = like a TWEEZERS. Are you scared? if you aren’t already, you better stop before you are.

  • No, you don’t have a chance, because doing nothing and leaving the unibrow is an option. They can only “cover some cosmetic things” if the condition being treated (the abnormal hair growth) is what is causing the medical problem (the allergic reaction). Since the allergic reaction is being caused by using the wax, which you don’t need to do, they won’t cover electrolysis. Now, if the eyebrow hair was so long that it was hanging down in front of your eyes, and keeping you from seeing, then they might be able to cover that (but probably not, since scissors would solve the problem much more cheaply than electrolysis). But if the only reason for doing anything (as opposed to just letting the eyebrows grow) is your appearance, then they won’t cover it.
