Yesterday I ran a 5.55 40 yard dash. Read description.?

My coach said next time go with someone faster then you to push ur self harder and let him start before me to help my acceleration. If I do this then what can I get my 40 time down too? And is it good for a freshman linebacker? 5 stars best answer.

  • You’re just gonna have to do what your coach says and see… No one can predict how low you can improve your 40 time…. Good luck….

  • Considering that you are a high school freshman, your 40-yard dash time is considered to be slightly above average for a linebacker. Keep in mind, the average 40-yard dash time for a high school freshman linebacker is between 5.6-6.1 seconds.

My best advice for you is to work hard and perform very well in practice every day. In addition, what you need to do this (and every) summer is eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, and either jogging or going for a long run every day. If you do these things, you will greatly improve your speed, strength, and acceleration, as well as your chances of becoming a successful, top notch linebacker in high school football, who could go on to play college football in the future.

  • That’s pretty slow, buddy. When I was a freshman I was running the 40 in 4.7, almost a second faster than you. You should do some uphill sprints, downhill runs and quick half squats to get some speed. It doesn’t matter who is in front of you if can’t run fast. I played cornerback/outside linebacker my freshman year on the J.V. team @ 5’8″ 170 lbs.

  • I played linebacker last season but im graduated now, I ran a 4.59 40, but at this position speed isn’t always the best thing, ill say in order to get faster to do more explosive resistance training to get your speed up

  • I’d say it is rather poor, even for a freshman LB.

Now how fast can you get? That depends.

    What is your body type?

How tall and what do you weigh?

Being a freshman you will mature physically and probably gain another inch or two.

Can you train yourself into becoming a 4.4 40 guy? Most likely not.

  • Alright well im a freshman linebacker from california… Its not necessarily the idea of going with someone faster its you workin on the 40 all the time! I run a 4.98 and there are faster guys than me. Its all about consistency with how much do you practice it?!?

  • That’s like lineman speed…you should run track and learn good footwork…maybe that will get your time down.
