i know its controversial because i did a paper on it, initially i went in thinking yes because its obviously harmful for the environment in that it destroys land and habitat for native animals but after doing the report i can understand why it cant be fully stopped, logging whilst bad still is a major source of income for many families and the demand for logging products is to great, there are also some positives like clearing a field causes a fire break which can potentially stop massive bush fires from destroying more woodland areas.
another topic you could use would be the implementation of desalination plants (good or bad?) because yes they provide us with much needed drinkable water from the ocean which is a vital virtually untapped resource for water consumption however the negative side effects such as the wastes produced are pretty bad, the highly concentrated salt water that is formed as a waste product of the process is dumped back into the ocean making the water highly toxic to both sea fauna and flora. But the world needs water to survive so using desalination is often a highly regarded alternative for gaining drinkable water. It also is generally more favorable with consumers as people tend not to want to drink recycled water, they would rather the desalination option.
theres plenty of information on both these topics, more so on the desalination because its a greater concern for many. hope this helps 🙂
