Can you tile a shower wall behind a circuit breaker box?

Renovating my condo, and behind one of the plastic tub surrounds is the breaker box, with mains and all other wiring below and above. There was nothing in place, just a plastic surround on top of the studs. Can I tile over this area? It is the wall across from the shower spout.

I’m putting down a piece of acrylic over the back of the box (overlapping the studs) for extra security, then firring out the studs for the tub, covering in # felt with asphalt cement, and then attaching the cbu for the tile. I think this should be sufficient to prevent any moisture problems?

Update:

Forgot to mention, but I live in CT, since different areas follow different codes

  • If you do the tile job properly, it makes no difference what is on the other side of the wall. Any moisture issue will be a SERIOUS problem long before it is bad enough to penetrate all the way though the wall.

  • total overkill what your doing its the back of the box just do your tiling as if the box wasnet there
