any idea how much my dad would have to pay for his bathroom to be modified?

my dad in his late s suffered a stroke .at the moment he has a bath and a sink in his bathroom.its not a big bathroom.my dad has weakness on his left hand side .im worried he may fall geting out of the bath.what i was thinking is maybe take the bath out and put some kind of shower enclosure ,the sink would fit were the bath would come out.the only way he could have a shower is if the door entrance was moved at least foot to the side of its original exsisting place.so my dad would have to get a sink, shower cubicle,a shower ,then the bathroom would have to be retiled ,then there is the labour.if any one has any idea how much he could expect to pay.i havnt realy got a clue about d.i.y .or any good tradesmen.the last person i got to do the toilet for him .did a terrible job.who do you trust .any help please dani thankyou x

  • Has he got an occupational therapist? (UK) if so speak to them they can point you in the right direction regarding this and any help he may be able to get, there is a disabled facilities grant available as well, get in touch with social servicess and the council, these grants are not just for council property. Also you can get VAT exemption( if he qualifies for that, this is on any aids and would include all sanitary ware and work to put it in! . Try CAB to get up to date information, also look for information via carers groups, you should be able to find all this information at the hospital or from hiss social worker (which in this area he would be referred to after a stroke, they help with all sorts)

  • hi dani if you are in uk ..get in touch with enviromental health …they do grants for this type of work and they know good contractors ..this is just the sort of job they do …ring them tomorrow
