Bizarre debit card fraud?

I noticed two unauthorized charges on my checking account… I called the merchants and inquired about the purchases, they gave me the last four digits of the card used and it does not match MY debit card, but it was connected to my account. I called my bank and they had two debit cards on file for my single checking account!!! Will I get reimbursed by the bank, it was their goof to send another debit card wherever and now im out over $1000.00

Update:

Yes I have reported it to my bank… It was two online purchases both shipped to different states, neither of those mine…. so i was just wondering if they’ll cover it

  • The financial institution should have a procedure in place for disputing the charge and also reporting that there is an unauthorized card being used. You need to do this as soon as possible to keep the thieves from making any additional unauthorized purchases.

The bank should cover your losses for this.

  • You might have to put up a ‘fight’ to get them to cover it. Make sure you talk to a bank manager, get their name and make notes. If/when you make a request for the bank to cover the overdrafts and fees, follow up with it in writing – keep a copy of the letter(s) and mail them certifiedelivery receipt so you have proof that the letter(s) were received. Banks are banks and conversations are ‘forgotten’. CYA on this. … Be diligent. Don’t get angry or hurt, but hang in there on getting the bank to cover that money. It was not your error that created the situation – it was their error. You shouldn’t pay for their error.
