Can I ask why I didn't get an interview?

I applied for several jobs within the past 3 months and recently found out that they have already completed their interviews. I actually have history with this University; I use to work for them for 15 years before my job was eliminated. Needless to say, I’m disappointed that they didn’t even give me a chance to come in and talk with them. I left the University in good standing with good job performances. This University has a history of discriminating against applicants but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt here.

Would it be inappropriate to ask why I didn’t get an interview? I really do want to know so that I can make any needed changes. The jobs that I applied too, I was qualified for; I have the degree and experience in the area and experience with the system that they are currently using.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • You can ask, but they are not obligated to give you an answer.
