Can I upgrade my paintball gun?

I own a Tipman 98 paintball gun. I am trying to upgrade it to a sniper rifle. Is it possible to have my gun clip fed?

Update:

I already have a scope and stock.

  • Wow you have been getting some terrible answers here

Yes you can have it clip fed but the kit cost insane amounts of money and then you have to buy mags on top of that.

  • Great answers here already. I’m simply going to say a few upgrades you should make are:

    1) Switching to Compressed Air (HPA) for better consistency than CO2

    2) A good hopper like a Halo or a Dye.

I would normally recommend a good quality barrel, but because Tippmanns don’t use Autococker threading once you buy a barrel for a Tippmann you can only use it for a Tippmann.

The only way to be a sniper in paintball is to use First Strike rounds from Tiberius Arms. This pretty much means you have to buy their $4 gun too since that’s the only thing that was designed for those kinds of paintballs.

Clip feed? I’m sure it’s possible knowing Tippmann. But let me ask you about the practicality of that kind of equipment. What advantage will you have by using a clip feed? A hopper stores many many more rounds and you don’t have to refill it as often. If you start using a clip feed you will find yourself at a major major disadvantage. Why would you pay money for that? The point of any equipment purchase should be to improve your game. Why? Because of scarcity of dollars mixed with the need to perform on the field. Why waste money on stuff that’s useless? This applies also to scopes and stocks.

  • Tacamo recently came out with magazine adapters for Tippmann markers.

Don’t bother with any internal “upgrades”. They don’t actually do anything to the performance of a Tippmann, so they’re just a waste of money. Hence the age-old homage “A Tippmann will always shoot like a Tippmann”.

As for the scope, you can keep it for looks if that’s what you want, but don’t rely on its use. Paintballs are nowhere near as accurate to facilitate the use of a scope.

Also, don’t get a barrel longer than 16″. 16″ is the maximum length for a paintball’s optimal performance (yes, there’s plenty of physics involved in paintball). Any longer will require more air to push the ball out of the barrel at the proper velocity, which means you’ll get fewer shots per tank fill. Plus, you just look silly running a 22″ long barrel.

As for everything else, it’s all personal preference. Personally, I think mil-sim is just a money-pit, where all you’re improving are looks and not the actual performance of the gun. But it’s not my money, and it’s your prerogative.

  • You can’t mod a Tippmann 98 to be clip fed. And as someone already said there is no such thing as a sniper in paintball. Only 2 barrels give you a longer range shot, the Apex and Flatline, but you sacrifice accuracy for range.

  • I don’t want to repeat what anyone said above but upgrading your 98 will cost you a bunch, I would recommend to just buy a new gun.

But if you really insist on upgrading to a sniper (which isn’t really effective in paintball) then try to buy a new barrel (remember to check bore size before buying) or get it customized online.

  • Nothing in paintball can snipe. You can get a flatline barrel or an apex which puts backspin on the ball and makes it go a bit farther, but half the time it won’t break. There are also first strike rounds, but tippmann’s can’t use them and they are expensive. All markers shoot at 3 fps, so there really is no sniping in paintball. Save up for a better electronic marker, Tippmann’s suck 🙂

  • of cource, but its harder. You can also add a scope to it, as i know
