  • She may have had a power interruption or failed to close Windows properly. Maybe even just hit the Power off button to shut the computer down. The program at boot up is the Check Disk program that is running and I hope she allowed it to complete without interruption. Sometimes this also happens when the hard drive may be having problems and possibly on the verge of failing. I hope she is running the proper programs like Disk Clean and Defragmentation.

  • If the computer doesn’t shut down correctly (crashes), then this will happen. You should always shut down Windows by using the Start>Shut Down feature, and never use the power button.

What the computer is doing is checking the filesystems for consistency. Basically it has to make sure no cruicial data clusters were corrupted. When programs don’t close properly, then there is the chance of corrupting data. Just let the disk check complete.

  • Based on what I was able to undersand. The computer turned on and then said “Checking file system C:” and maybye press any key to skip…

Ok well this is normal, this is used by windows to make sure the Hard drive is working and has no curruption. The orange light on pavilion computers is the Hard drive light, when it lights up it means it’s doing something with the Hard drive. (In this example it’s just scanning it.)

    Hopes this clears things up.

  • sounds like an infection that is eating her hard drive? maybe a reformat is in order?
