Im 39 weeks today with my first baby, as its my first i dont really know what to expect, the last few days ive been having irregular throbbing/pulsing in my back and lower belly pain, i have also had shooting pains in my legs and down below, there is no pattern to any of these things, am i just wishful thinking or could labour be close?

Sounds like bracks and hicks contractions u could very well be close to labor.count how far apart they are.5 within a min is labor.congrats and make sure someone is with u always all day long since your so close.u don’t want to go into labor alone and don’t know it for safety reasons too.congrats again 🙂
sounds like your body is practicing for the real deal. this can go on for weeks. First babies are more likely to be late then early. If you want to speed things up get some light exercise, walk. and enjoy some sex, FYI after you lose your mucus plug sex can increase risk of infection, but until then it is safe.

yes you could be close. other signs for close labor are:
loose bowel movements
contractions
water breaks
frequent headaches
milk coming in
loss of mucus plug (the barrier holding your cervix from opening)
there isnt really any way to predict your baby coming for sure until your water breaks and your contractions getting closer together, stronger and lasting longer.
