De-greasing cast iron grill?

I have a heavy cast iron grill (one of those Le Creuset things which you put over your electric cooker plate) which I subject to intense use.
I can never get it to its pristine state. I have tried with the usual dishwasher cycle but the result is only partial; I have also tried to keep the grill surface submerged in a mixture of hot water and dish washing soap for a couple of days but whilst the result is better, it is still not what I wished.
I do not have a fireplace/open flame so I cannot try with flame either.
Are there any more aggressive methods of degreasing the grill which I could use?

Thanks

  • Try a heavy duty degreaser you can get at Walmart or even go to an auto parts store. If you have to use brillo pad with it or with dawn dish soap..

  • Take a Brillo pad to it.=)

  • You really aren’t supposed to wash cast iron like that. I just wipe my with a paper towel. I have always been told that washing it will sort of ruin the surface. Check out
http://whatscookingamerica.net/Informatiā€¦ for more info to care for your cast iron. You need to season it for it to have its desired effect of being non-stick.

  • easy off oven cleaner. follow can directions. i prefer the original smelly one over the low odor one. i think it works better
