Do I have to include the DJ, Videography, or Photography in my final count for the reception?

Do they eat too during the reception or just working?

  • Yes, please count us in. My husband and I take wedding photos as a hobby. It takes us all day to prepare, get our kids ready so we can be gone for several hours, pack the car, set up, etc. We haven’t eaten for hours. Being able to grab a plate at the reception is welcome and necessary. We want to be at our best so we can keep doing a great job.

  • I would talk to the reception about it. Most charge for a half meal price, but don’t count in the actual head count for any kid 13 and under. Some places charge full meal price and a head count is need for ANY child, including baby’s. If you invited one cousin’s kids you must invite them all. Another idea would be to find a couple responsible 15 year old girls, and set up maybe at your parents and pay them $20 each for the night, (that’s what I got paid a day when I babysat for 12 hours lol) and have the adults drop off the kids so they can enjoy the night without worrying the kids are going to knock over the cake or spill punch on your dress. (one bride got chocolate spilt on her at a wedding I went to)

  • Yes, definitely. In all cases your taking about at least 8 hours of work, and you can’t do that without eating. The hall usually gives you a break on a vendor table thoguh.

  • Usually you can get vendor meals at a discount (50% off, in my experience) from your caterer, so ask your caterer if they give discounts for vendors. However, usually your vendors can also eat the regular meals in case you have some no-shows to the reception.

  • Usually the venue or caterer will offer “vendor” meals. Ask whoever is in charge of the food at your wedding. Some caterers will offer discounts if it is a vendor meal. But you should definitely feed your vendors. Besides – would you really want the photographer to be taking pictures while you have a bunch of food in your mouth?

  • The photographer definitely eats! Cause he/she’s been there usually all day & night!

The videographer & DJ sometimes eat; it depends on how long they’ve been there and how they personally feel about eating at the event.

If you are having a sit-down meal, you need to clear it up with them ahead of time so that you can either have a plate for them or not. Just ask them what they usually do.

If you are having a buffet, I wouldn’t bother including just those few people. They will wait til all the guests eat anyway ( if they are professional and respectful) so they will basically just pick a little at what’s left!
