Filter intake is well below water level in above ground pool, but the outlet where water flows into pool is high on side and not always under water. I need water level lower because my grand kids splash it out of pool. Is it ok to have the inflow above the water level?

If the filter intake is above the water, you could burn out your pump. Keep a garden hose near by and fill the pool as needed. The filter outlet should also be at or below water level, but that is less critical.
