Dog owners, do you prefer to walk your dog early in the morning, in the evening or at night?

Or you walk them more than once a day?

Thank you for answering.

  • Twice daily taken out for exercise – not walking with the dog plodding along beside me on the same well-trodden route – jogging in the morning, combined with training and time to goof around playing and early evening. Weekends, both dogs are often taken out hiking, again combined with training, to give their minds a workout too.

  • It depends on the weather. If it’s to hot I prefer taking them on walks in the early morning and late at night, although they still get a short walk (20-30 minutes) some time during the day. If it’s to cold I do it the other way around. But they always get AT LEAST 3 proper long walks every day (about 3-4 hours all in all). My personal favorite is taking walks after midnight in the summer. There are no people out and everything is silent and calm.

  • Not early in the morning here.

The dew on the ground (on much MUCH cooler days) makes my boots saturated. Also, I live right next to a school. The kids walk there, and the busses come and go. There is also to traffic of the parents dropping of their kids.

Not to mention, everyone is off to work (live in a subdivision) and constantly pulling out in the morning.

Evening usually works the best, when it cools down and gets quiet, and everyone is home from work, school, and ready for dinner.

Night? Not really. Sometimes my pup has the runs, and makes it very difficult to pick up. At night, the safest option is the sidewalk, in front of the neighbors’ yards’. Since I live off of a main road, there are nut jobs speeding, it’s dark, and teen kids sometimes racing down the road.

I walk my dog in my yard, or more in the public grass… The grass in public is mowed every week, so grass clumps everywhere. If my puppy gets the runs, and I can’t pick it up? No worries. Stash some grass. The neighbors usually pick up their clippings.

  • Well, we walk early in the morning, again at noon, again at late afternoon and then once around 8PM. My dog is almost 11. We don’t have a fenced yard, so we walk a lot.

You may need a different schedule based on the age and activity level of your dog and/or based on his socialization. For example, while trying to socialize a dog, you might want your big walk to occur when/where you are most likely to encounter a lot of activity–other dogs, people, traffic, etc. If you had a dog that was easily spooked, you might want to walk when/where there is not so much activity for your big walk, and then take shorter trips when/where there is great deal of activity to work on his socialization in more manageable increments.

In extremely hot or extremely cold weather, you may need to go on shorter, but more frequent, walks.

  • My two dogs are walked from aproximately 11-30am to 2pm every day, rain or shine.

In the shady woods and near lakes if the weather is hot.

Always off lead so they can run as much as they like.

I cannot remember a day that I never took my dogs out for a walk, its part of my daily routine and the best time of my day, and one of the main reasons I love owing dogs.

  • I go jogging with my border collie cross and English bull terrier at around 5 in the morning till 6 (where I live bull terriers must be muzzled or I can face a pretty hefty fine, so by going out early it allows me to jog Bruce without using his muzzle) – I start work at 10, so when I get home from my job at 6 I take the newfs out for a hour walk (split into two 30min walks).

Then, in the evening when I get home from work at around 6-ish I take the siberians for a run, get home at like 9 then take Bruce and Zoe out on another 1 hour jog – yeah my days pretty hectic.

I most prefer the morning walks/jogs though as its peaceful and gives me some ‘alone time’.

  • Depending on what day. In the summer it`s morning or evening. In the spring, fall and early winter it`s evening.

I never walk at night, that`s when Cougars and other wild Animals are most active where I live.

  • They’re walked numerous times per day.

My favourite time is early morning around 6am before there’s an abundance of people around.

Midday during the week is great too.

Not as much of a fan of the evening/night walks now that I live in this area. Not exactly the best neighbourhood. But that doesn’t mean they don’t get their evening outing.

I live in an apartment, don’t have the luxury of a large yard of my own.

  • I don’t walk my dogs that often. We do agility practice in the front yard, play fetch in the back yard, and if we go on a walk, its late afternoon/early evening. We can walk all around the neighborhood and rarely see a car, and know where the loose dogs are, so we can avoid those.

  • I like taking mine in the evening before it gets too dark. We play at the dog park three times a day. I live in NC so it’s really hot during the day, but the park is shaded. She doesn’t go on many walks though, since she plays hard at the park and gets tired. Plus most of the time she’s playing with her friend, which tires her out a lot.

  • I like to do 2x a day usually, one short walk and one hike. Usually it depends on the season when we go out summers are too hot for the late morning and afternoon and winters can be cold for me so then I prefer that time in winter:)

I love going out early morning in the summer and love late summer nights too. Both peaceful times of day.
