Have you heard this and has it been true? "Babies who sit/crawl longer…"?

Over the past few years I’ve had different people tell me this same theory that babies who sit longer before crawling or babies who crawl longer before walking have faster cognitive development / easier time learning to read.

So now im curious, Have you heard this also? Is it a real study or just somebody random observation, and was this true with your own kids?

  • I haven’t heard it, and while it was true for my daughter (who sat and crawled at about average but didn’t walk until 18 months) it was absolutely not true for my son (who didn’t even sit until 10 months and crawled at about the same time). He taught himself to spell by phonics before he was three.

  • mine started sitting unsupported at about 6 months i think, didn’t start crawling til 10 months (later than her cousins but she’s the oldest so i didn’t notice then), and started walking at about 12 1/2 months. she’s smart and more mature than other kids her age i’ve met so i’d say there’s nothing wrong with her. oh and i’ve never heard of that concept before, remember there’s no “average baby” just like there’s no normal person, we’re all different and that’s OK

  • i have never heard that..my daughters super active and running 24/7 is bilingual and can Id every letter in the alphabet… count to 5 and shes not even 2.. i think its more on the parenting to get them to want to learn and make it fun. cut out the TV and read more..
