Heat bulb vs average 1watt as heat lamp?

I recently acquired a 3-4 week old scorpion. I’ve got the whole set up- tank, screen, hide, water bowl, mister, etc…I have a 50watt black light heat bulb right now and it just doesn’t seem to be doing the job. It’s not keeping the tank at proper temperature.

Is it okay to use a household 75 or 1 watt bulb in the heat lamp until I can get to the pet store this weekend or should I make a special trip tomorrow?

  • Check the wattage listed on the lamp. You can’t exceed the maximum watts, as it’s a fire risk. If it’s rated for 1w, you can use any bulb up to that amount. If it fits, it should keep your scorpion warm enough. They will survive at room temp also, but won’t be as active. Keep in mind they are nocturnal.
