Weird cloudy white layer on surface of tank?

At the top of my tank when I put my finger in it, there this kind of cloudy layer or something. I don’t know what it is. It looks like white clear oil? I don’t know.

  • If you noticed it right after sticking your finger in, I would think it would have been something on your hand…soap residue, lotion, ect.

  • If it becomes visible only after sticking your hand in, it’s something left over on your hand, probably not healthy for the fish, so I’d suggest a water change. But if you stuck your hand in because you saw it and got curious, I’d go with the scooping it out by a mug technique and see if that helps. If not, water changes. If that doesn’t help, post the question again with details as to what you’ve done to try to solve the issue or ask someone in the fish section of the pet store.

  • I had that once when i starting out my first tank. All you need to do is grab a mug and all the surface water should go in the mug and then it should go away.

Are you starting out a new tank?

    Hope it helps
