how can I run the mile in 7 minutes?

My gym teacher told us for our final exam we had to run the mile in 7 minutes in order to get an A ( which I think is ridiculous because in my opinion as long as you give it your best effort you should get an A ).The final is about 3 weeks off and he just told us Friday. So today I started to train and I ran the mile in 8 minutes and 20 seconds. Is that good for my first time? Can you give me any tips on how to achieve my goal. I’m 15 if that helps any.

  • It will be hard in 3 weeks and will take a lot of effort, especially on the final test. I suggest that you do a little bit of running in longer distances, 2-4 miles at a time. Also, you should do some interval training, which is jogging for a bit, and then doing a little sprinting, then repeat. This is very good for strengthening your hear.

  • That is not a ridiculous time at all (the seven minute mark). You are going to have to run every day (not nec. the full mile) with a break day or two every week until you run. Learn proper running form, and keep that up for the mile. I wouldn’t mess around to much with how to run the actual mile. Just push yourself as hard as you can but at a steady pace. you dont want to sprint and walk.

  • Day by day gradually increase your speed until you reached your goal! And yes that is good for your first time, my first mile time was 10 minutes hahaha!
